Orientation was pretty awesome. I didn't get to meet my roommate (what's the deal with that anyway?) but I got to wander around campus some. I went to an activities fair and there's just so many cool clubs I can join! It's awesome! I'm not really very good at sports, but there are all kinds of intramural sports, plus representatives from the various Greek organizations, Amnesty International, Swing Dance Society, Theatre Club, and an improv comedy group on campus that was playing all these improv games with the new freshmen! It's all so exciting.

August 15th is when I get to move in. Then there's a whole week of freshman activities before classes start on the 24th. I didn't even get to know the name of my roommate. What if we both bring a mini-fridge or a giant couch or something? I don't even know what to do.

You go to school in Greece?

Nope, in Seattle! I was talking about Greek organizations, like fraternities and sororities!

Ooooh. Well, that makes more sense. Are you going to join one, then?

I don't know! I think I might at least go to their recruitment to see what it's all about. I know it's a lot of fun parties to get to know each other, so we'll see. :D

I would do that, if I could go back in time and go to uni.

Really? I hope it's as fun as it seems to be. I'm gonna look into it.

I didn't meet my freshman roommate until that first week either. But they didn't give you a way to contact her? Like, an email address or something?

I didn't get anything like that! Was I supposed to? Maybe I should call the campus or something.

That would probably be a good idea. Maybe they've pushed those things back closer to freshman week, but I don't think so. My freshman roommate was emailing me like crazy several weeks before school started. It helped me be less shy.

But then, you're not shy, so I'm sure you'll be fine either way.

Oh shit. I guess I'll call on Monday. That could be a lot of trouble if there's some mixup! Or maybe my roommate has MY email and will get ahold of me?

Meh. I don't think I could possibly just sit around and wait for that to happen.

Yeah, if there's a mixup you'd be fixing it much sooner by calling. :) Try not to worry too much, though. UW makes mistakes occasionally but they're pretty fast about correcting them.

You don't have to sit around. You should have some pre-college fun. Every incoming freshman is entitled to some celebratory, end-of-summer shenanigans. Just don't get drunk. ...I have to say that. I'm required by law.

Whoa, I just kinda got hit with a bit of anxiety about all of this. But I know that calling will help... I just... wow. Haha. Sorry.

You, my responsible, over-21 friend, telling me not to get drunk. Thanks for that. Though I think, until summer's over and I'm out from under my dad's roof, I should probably focus on having some fun that I can remember before starting school! Do you have any suggestions?

I definitely know what that feels like. It'll be okay.

Haha, that sounds like a good plan. You could have a party with some of your friends? I celebrated my introduction to college by going bowling.

You're a genius, Mitch! I'll have a combination going-away-to-college/18th birthday party!

You have to come! You know, if it's not lame to come to some dumb high school girl's party.
